Re: High Output Alternators.......Thoughts?
Summit Racing has an easy menu to choose alternators from.
Here's a link to get you started. It's sorted as a 12 volt, GM 10si, one-wire, prices from low to high.

You can sort further from the menus on the left of the page.
I bought this nice chrome 60 amp. The spec sheet that comes with it actually rates it closer to 70 amps above 3000 rpm and 81 amps maximum output under full load. It was $74.99 when I bought it in 2006.

Re: High Output Alternators.......Thoughts?
I too have a GM 1 wire swapped to the passenger side. Extremely easy install. To use the factory wiring, I ran 2 wires to the alternator output, one goes directly to the battery, the other through a 30 amp fuse, and into the factory harness. Note this does cause the amp meter in the dash to read far under the proper output level, but should keep the factory wiring from frying. The amp meter in the dash still functions under this setup, helping to give you a quick idea if the alternator quits on you, or you blew the 30 amp fuse.
It worked for me.
It worked for me.

Re: High Output Alternators.......Thoughts?
I chose to go a different route with my early roadster. I ground the back of the alternator mount to fit the 80mm spacing on the later alternators. Brazed a hardened washer to it on the back end. At the moment I have a 510 alternator on it. Depending whether it is a 35 or 50 amp model I will later switch to 79 or newer internal regulator B210/F10 Bosch rebuilt 60 amp model. Keeps the Nissan look and readily available.
66 stroker, almost done.

Yeah, can't argue with you there.ttyR2 wrote:The GM alternator looks like a small trash can compared to the stock unit, hence my comment about the Justy alternator

When Natones got home, he finished the 3 wire install and wired the "B" brake warning light into the idiot light circuit. So far, works like a charm.

Re: High Output Alternators.......Thoughts?
This is a newer GM CS 130 alternator that I'm using beside the stock alternator:
It's actually a 100 amp alternator and is about the same size and weight of the stock one.
Pretty much the same to install as the older GM alternators.
There are several configurations for bolting on, so make sure you get one with the mounting ears approx. 180* apart.
