sr20DET & the steering rod(67.5)

Post by guest »

is ther a way around this without having to fabricate?

if not is ther another motor that will produce that kind of horse power without the steering rod being a problem?

Steering Rod (problem?)

Post by spriso »

Fabrication is going to be required no matter what engine swap you do-- there is no getting around it. If you don't want to do any fabrication, put the tired U20 or R16 back in there...

The stock steering rod is not a problem when doing an SR20DET swap into a Datsun roadster however.

There are two ways you can mount the turbo, either a top mount (which is easier), or a bottom mount (harder).

Both have their drawbacks, a top mount will tend to cook the paint on the hood, and master cylinder, a bottom mount will be harder to stuff into the already-too-small space.

TR went the traditional route with his conversion, and went with a bottom mount turbo, as did I with the conversion that I am doing for a customer right now.

Dave did a top mount with his conversion, and it looks great too.

I have posted 3 photos of the manifold that I built for the SR20DET conversion that we are doing right now here:

Let's see if I can post an image in this post too:

Good luck with your conversion, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask,

thanks for that info and pics.

how long does this project generally take you and what is the cost like for fabracting?

money is not the issue yet, but an idea of cost would help persuade me to getting this done faster.

Michael-How did you weld that exhaust manifold? Please tell me your secrets! That is such a beautiful weld on the manifold to turbo connection, was it TIG? I wish I could weld like that! TR
