R16 head bolt thread size

Post by printner »

Are all R16 head bolts 7/16-14, even later (metric) engines? I have one home I have to clean out, and need to confirm thread pitch.

Thanks!

You might check the Vendor sights here. They sell them. See if the part # changes for different engines years. Just a thought.

Threads are the same - which threw off my machine shop guy because the crankshaft bolts were metric.
BTW, there should be ONE head bolt that is 1/4" longer than the others, this one is for the engine lifting point, or "Slinger" as Datsun called it.
"When all else fails, force prevails!" Ummm, we're gonna need a bigger hammer here.

Thanks, all! I have Dean's stud set, including the longer one, so should be good to go.

I’m coming in a little late on this conversation so I’m not sure if I am reiterating question but.
I just got my head back from the head shop and they’re saying that two of the head bolts aren’t good. I’ve been looking for head bolts for my 69 2000 head to no avail. Any suggestions anyone

I believe a vast majority will tell you to toss all your head bolts, not just the two "bad" ones. You need a fresh complete set.

No. The head bolts for a U20 are different (Easy to tell … five long and five short).

Like in this set:

… and, be VERY careful to not over torque them, otherwise you risk cracking the head quite easily. Ignore what ARP says and either:

1. Torque the head bolts to factory specs DRY (which is 65 ft-lb for your U20), or
2. Use ARP lube (or even anti-seize) and SUBTRACT 10 ft-lb from factory U20 torque specs.

As Dennis mentioned, best to change them all out as well.

I misread earlier ... the title said R16 but you were looking for U20 2000 .

As BWK2000 linked ... those should be correct and Dasun parts just released a 25% SALE starting October 16th.. good opportunity to pick them up cheaper....
