Re: R16 Engine knock
Exploded the engine, nothing obvious, wrist pins look fine. Dropped off at machine shop, possibly cylinders out of spec, bad head gasket,.. Pending cleaning and measurements next.

Re: R16 Engine knock
Did you check the piston to cyl play ?
,take pics of the rod bearings and crank journals , I'd have the rods resized ( best done by a master level )

At the machine shop, they will check all the clearances.

Re: R16 Engine knock
Does anyone engine specs, Crank/Cylinder/Rod bore/Crankshaft housing bore dimensions, torques for these, Cylinder wall clearance? Or are the answers in the H20/H16(R) engine service manual?

Yup … You can find everything you’re looking for in the ‘Service Manuals’ section of the Tech Wili - Lots of overlap in the various service manuals listed there … just pick one.
Since you have a Low Windshield SPL311, you might also find the downloadable quick reference (full-spec) sheet below useful:

Re: R16 Engine knock
You can tell when the crank bearings are put in & plastic guage the bearing play , usually no probs.

Re: R16 Engine knock
Nothing stood out as the cause of the knock, but had I continued to run it would have exposed itself. It was likely piston slap, clearance with cylinder was too much plus connecting rod bushings were bad.
Cylinders/pistons will go to 0.020 over
Bearings will go to 0.010 over
A PO had just replaced bearings and rings and called it rebuilt. No machining.
