So per the advice, I cut out the old parts and brazed a new pipe on, chamfering the inside of the pipes for a smooth transition. I also extended the pipe a little so that it extended past the exhaust. I was happy with the results… although the pipe bending and adjustment to get it right was a PITA!

Well done! You need that peace of mind that comes with knowing that the fuel from the overflow will not drip onto a hot exhaust.
I can't help thinking that scenario could end in tears

Here is the original OEM bracket for the overflow pipe courtesy of Mike Young. Beat up a bit. Broken and hole worn eccentric.

Sheet metal is only about 20 gauge. Gee, I wonder why they break? I will not waste my time by making an exact copy as I thought I would. Nissanman took the right path I think. I'll use 1/16 x 3/4" steel flat bar. Original is about .65" wide.

Very basic aren't they?
The eccentricity was probably caused by the pipe rubbing on the bracket over the years i.e. distinct lack of the rubber grommet.
They don't have a lot to do but it is best to over engineer things like this.

Clearly from being rubbed. These certainly weren't one of the over engineered things on the car.
