Yep, me too I'm afraid. I did go to the wrecking yard many moons ago and took a Ford Escort inertia kill switch out of it (located in the trunk as I recall) with plans to wire it into my pump power line, but I've always been concerned that the Roadster's ride might be having it kill the pump every now and then... but I should install it...polkadot wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 11:00 pmoh I assure you, if theres a wreck where I cant turn off the key, burning alive is going to be my parting gift to myself.redroadster wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 5:55 am Like in a wreck where the ign is still on but the engine got stopped ,if not the pump still runs

Soo ...when you crash into that preschool & or bus they're toast too ?
I'd image the ecu has a lead for a power relay shut off even pencil eraser sized failsafe chips do

Re: 67 1600 'simple' EFI conversion
The MegaSquirt shuts everything down (if wired to spec) if there is no crank signal from the engine, and I doubt the engine would stay running if a fuel line were compromised as it's tuned based on a certain amount of pressure, and if the pressure drops, the engine stops.
The impact switch is extra safety, and recommended.
I have one in my car trunk from some Ford product, too long ago to remember what.
Very simple 2 wire NC switch which opens on impact. Just break the power line somewhere near the fuel pump and splice in 2 wires to go to the switch, wherever you mount it (inside the trunk is best).
I think (could be wrong again) it is more applicable to a ruptured fuel tank, in which case the engine could keep running...hot exhaust...sparks...

OK sounds like it's hooked right, but you should have a power relay ( it delays shutting off for 5-7 sec. )
As you could have water in gas ,air that shut it down temp and the cars doing 65 and a sharp curve ahead and no PS
causing a wreck ...not a 311 though

Re: 67 1600 'simple' EFI conversion
Yes, I believe that's correct... the Microsquirt cycles the high pressure pump then waits for ignition, otherwise it would flood the engine. However, I do have a low pressure fuel pump that feeds my swirl tank that's just on by the key and not tied into the Microsquirt, so... that's the one that needs the interrupt. It doesn't put any fuel in the engine bay any more like with carbs... only transfers fuel from the main tank to the swirl tank, so it's relatively protected.

I believe very strongly in taking responsibility for your own safety, almost as much as I believe that trying to be lecture people about safety on the internet is as useful as throwing rocks at the moon.redroadster wrote: ↑Sun Apr 07, 2024 7:13 pm Soo ...when you crash into that preschool & or bus they're toast too ?

Re: 67 1600 'simple' EFI conversion
If you really think about it, in a crash scenario, it would be best to shut down all electrical power close to the battery to prevent any sparks igniting fuel. Would also kill the engine right away. In your average carburated car the engine could keep running with the fuel in the carb if the line/tank was compromised.
An impact switch to power relay would be a good safety addition to all of our cars.
