Classic Tube order

Post by funkaholik »

Getting close to being able to drop the body back onto the frame, so I thought I'd better order my new brake lines. While several vendors carry the flex lines, caliper transfer tubes, and rear axle lines, the only place I found with the full set of lines front and rear is Classic Tube. I called to order them yesterday and was told there is a 6 week turnaround time! Yikes.

Just thought I'd post this info in case anyone else is needing to order from them - order early!

Anyone know if Classic Tube will allow custom ordering of individual pieces? I already have new SS Caliper transfer tubes and the two rear axle lines. But in case the lines from the two master cylinders and gas tank don't clean up / flush out to my liking, I hope I could buy individual pieces???

Either Classic Tube or Inline Tube will custom make pieces for you if you send the originals to them.

Yes. I also already have the rear axle lines, and I am using the Volvo front caliper conversion, so I didn't need the transfer tubes. I called and they will break out just the parts you need from the kit. The sales guy was very helpful and worked through all the parts to make sure I got just what I needed.

A bit of an aside, but what is the main reason that people do a Volvo Caliper conversion?

It is a fairly simple upgrade to 2-piston calipers. I haven't done it myself but it is reported to be not that much more powerful but much less prone to fade. However anyone who has done it is far more qualified to answer!
I put a set of 300ZX brakes on my 2000. Now THOSE work!

I did the Volvo caliper swap for a couple reasons. The Datsun parts are getting more expensive all the time. My car sat for 20 years and needed everything new. The cost of calipers, rotors, etc was much better for the Volvo setup. There are also a wider variety of pad compounds available.
My car isn't on the road yet, so I can't speak about the stopping performance. I considered the 300ZX upgrade, but wanted something that would fit with the stock 14 inch wheels. There are several threads here on 311s regarding the conversion. I used a kit from blue hands fabrication to make things simple.

A good trick is to use the 1992 Volvo calipers for ABS cars. No drilling or distribution block is required.

Volvo calipers are getting tough to locate if you are looking for the ABS version.

Suspect we will see a move to Wilwood kits as the oem type options run out.

300ZX Calipers are easily found-- and new calipers are now available as well for those considering the swap-- the aluminum 4-piston calipers are much lighter than the iron Volvo calipers as well...

Anyone know if the Classic Tube "Complete Brake Line Kit" contains the caliper transfer tube set for both sides? I plan to place an order tomorrow to take advantage of their Black Friday free shipping sale and can call them if needed but figured it'd be better to hear from folks who've actually ordered and used their kits.

Will answer my own question to maybe will help someone in the future. Per Classic Tube, the Complete Brake Line Kit does contain the transfer tubes and the front caliper inlet lines. To fit new lines for the entire car (mine is a '69 2000) you need DAF1001-S, DAO1002-S, DAR1001-S, DAH1002-S, and DA1004-S. Delete the 'S' if you don't want stainless. There is no fuel kit, so you have to order those pieces individually per above. Lead time stated as 2 weeks. They have a Black Friday sale on through Nov 30 that provides free shipping. It's the only discount I've ever seen from Classic Tube, and I've been looking a long time because I didn't need these pieces until now. Even called in the Spring to ask if they had club or show discounts, and answer was no. So if you need 'em, they are probably not going to be any cheaper than with free shipping.
