Looking for pic of connection between speedo cable and transmission

Post by bchen »

The Speedometer and Tachometer cables in my 1600 must have broken at some point in the past and a PO removed them. I've found the Tach end on the right side of the engine block (as the driver sits).

Where does the speedometer connect? I've read that it connects to the transmission, but haven't found the exact location yet. Can someone post a picture?

Thanks much,

Bernard

On 4-speeds the connection for the speedometer cable is on the right side of the transmission, towards the rear. 1600s used a small right angle gear box between the cable & transmission.

Pat, is the speedo connection on the same side as the tach or on the other side? And I'm guessing it's only visible from the underside, correct?

Bernard, yes, same side as distributor & only visible from underneath. It’s been too long since I swapped out my 4-speed for a 5-speed that I can’t remember what route it took.

These cars were originally designed to be RHD, so a lot of things are on the “wrong” side for us!

on my 67 4 speed the connection is on the drivers side, at the rear of the transmission.
