Engine and Tranny Mounting Bolt lengths…

Post by iloveredmeat »

In the hopes of avoiding the inefficient cluster of a day I had yesterday, I’d like to be better prepared with the correct hardware today to mount my transmission and engine.

Thanks to JT, I had the correct bolt flywheel to crankshaft bolts. That was awesome.

And I see the size and pitch in the Datsun Sports Car Handbook and Service Manual, but not the lengths.

Is that info available somewhere handy?

Specifically:
Bolt clutch cover to flywheel
Bolt transmission case to engine block
Bolt and nut transmission case to engine rear plate
Header bolts

etc

Is there a place I can find the lengths? Any help on where to find this info is appreciated!

a) front engine mount bolts are captive, rear nut/bolt combo
b) tip/trick - get one/two extra bolts, remove the head - cut a groove in one end to accept a screwdriver - locate these in front mount position - makes it MUCH easier to locate mount - then you can take care of the rear and then unscrew the front and replace.

I also do similar for the fan and people have suggested doing the same for the starter motor if replacing when in the car.

From online parts manual. And yes, Datsun measured the length in mm.

Engine mounting 7 BOLT TO FIX BRACKET 00114-62810 ALL 4 3/8" x 28mm long
I believe this one might be coarse without checking.

Not sure here if fine or course.
Engine mounting 9 BOLT TO FIX MOUNTING 00114-52210 ALL 4 5/16" x 22mm long
Engine mounting (- trans) 16 BOLT-MTG, REAR 08111-22210 1.6L 2 Diameter? x 22mm long
Engine mounting (- trans) 21 BOLT-TO FIX MOUNTING TO BRACKET 00114-62210 ALL 2 3/8 x 22mm long

Engine mounting (- trans) 24 BOLT-TO FIX SUPPORT TO CROSS MEMBER 00114-52210 ALL 8 5/16 x 22mm long
Fine Thread

I switched to serrated flange bolts for the started. Fairly easy to get in, no washers and smaller hex head.

And don't forget the ground strap from starter to frame.
