Yokohama 14" tires R.I.P.

Post by Habitat.pat »

I just went looking on line for tires for my frame off & found that Yokohama doesn't make 14" tires any longer! I tried Discount Tire, Tire Rack and finally Yokohama. Nothing! There are a few narrower sizes listed on Amazon, but I'm looking for 195/70r14's.

I don't need the tires yet, but would like to nail down what I want to use.

I really wanted to stay with Yokohama, but that isn't possible. What preferred brands are y'all using now?

Peace,
Pat

I’ve been very happy with my Falken Azenis 615 in the 195/60/14 size. They have recently been superseded by the RT660 which has been reported to be slightly better. Very little choice for a 14” performance tire out there. I’m trying to keep my car period correct, but wheel size is one of the concessions I might have to make.

Why do you want to run that size? Is this for stock wheels?

I second what Alvin said. 195/70/14 look too big to me and I don't like anything wider than a 185 if you are using the stock rims.

14" tire supply Apocalypse. Still running Bridgestone RE71 here -- 195/55R14 fronts and 205/60R14 rears.

I'm also trying to figure out what tries to buy for my 1967 (early body style) SPL311 with original wheels. Probably 185/70R14's. I'd like a performance type rubber with narrow whitewalls. Am I asking for too much?

Your original wheels are 4", they went to 4.5 inch wide in 1967.5 I really don't think 185mm wide are safe assuming a shop will even mount them for you. My research seems to indicate 175mm will work but aren't recommended.

I’ve been running 185/70/14 on 4.5” wheels with no problems. Confirm your wheel size unless you know for certain the history of your car. You might even have a mix of widths. Check the spare too.

Whitewall options are slim. You’ll likely find just a couple of options in an regular all season tire.

TireRack has Uniroyal Tiger Paws.

Let us know what you find.

There’s plenty of past discussions on tires.

For example…
