Review - EBC DP4120R Brake Pads

in my hype to finally get the car assembled several months ago I ordered the EBC4120R

They are $90 on Amazon.

My review is as follows:

Ok, but seriously. I am not trying to give people brake stopping distance measurements or performance details. They stop fine. I can't really feel a difference with stock pads.

They are dusty as hell. My wheels get totally covered in only a couple dozen miles.

The install was ok, with a kind of annoying duct-tape like material to trim for the back of the pad. They fit with a small amount of persuasion and depressing the pistons slightly. It's a tighter fit than stock in the caliper. Mine were pretty squeaky until I put some disc brake quiet around all the edges and contact areas.

My take is unless you are doing some very spirited performance driving, pass on the privilege of paying $90 for a thick layer of brake dust every block you drive. I will probably be swapping back to my stock pads.

Porterfield R4S compound pads and shoes are similarly dusty, and the front tolerances sometimes require persuasion to change, but they stop like no others, even when cold, and even at the rears, especially with 13/16” cylinders.

What application do you use? I'm finding no Roadsters application on the Porterfield website.

Porterfield has R4S fronts and rears. Look up the Dunlop caliper application, or call them. From memory, it’s the 1960s Jaguar Mk X or Ferrari 250 front pad (though thankfully, not priced that way!) and I sent them my rear shoes, because they didn’t have cores at that time, but said they normally did.

Maybe the 510 rears which I just found on there site are the ticket?

Likely, but I would call to be sure. If you send rear shoe cores, the price is typically lower.

I've been using EBC Green Stuff front pads since 2004 with no serious dust, good stopping power with my original discs, no fade and very kind to the discs either. On Dunlop calipers you just get pads for Series 1 E-type, Ferrari 250, Lancia Fulvia, Aston Martin, Early Toyota Crown and so on and so forth. Never had and trouble getting the pads out ever though the original type pads with the thin, therefore easily damaged inserts in a block of friction material are the only reason you might have trouble. Whereas the EBC pads have a proper back plate which gives a good pedal feel among other advantages.
