Distributor's rotor and timing

Post by Guest »

I must admit that the ignition system is my weak spot when it comes to knowledge. I engaged my distributor/drive/oil pump as instructed in the recurve kit, and the manuals. My question is: Is the rotor supposed to be ON the #1 spark when in 0 degree TDC? Because mine is actually in a position where it is ABOUT TO contact the #1 spark plug position.

I put the wires in order (1-3-4-2) asuming that the first one that the rotor will contact when it starts rotating is the #1. Am I right , or am I sn ignorant?!?

Jorge,

By the sounds of it you could be off a tooth on the dizzy and the oil pump drive. It is pretty easy to do. If everything is lined up I believe the rotor should line up pretty much spot on with the spark plug conductor on the cap.

You are correct on the firing order and the rotation is counter clockwise.

Steve:

Thank you for the reply! I will go back and re-engage the drive one tooth then. I'll keep you posted........
