Re: Crankshaft Identification
Looks suspiciously like a 1500 crank. I just dropped mine off at the machine shop so can't look now. I'm building a 1.8l.
And if it is do you want to sell it?

Re: Crankshaft Identification
Hi Curtis,
I don't know anything about 1500's frankly.
Here is another photo, and if I've learned anything, this is a 5-main, correct?
I was told that this came out of a "Datsun Roadster 2000", and I'm hoping for confirmation. The only thing is the part number is a digit off of what I see here:
http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsun/sp ... nkshaft/26
Any and all input is appreciated!
Thanks,
Peter

Re: Crankshaft Identification
Yes. 5 main. If it is an inch longer than a 1600 and heavier it's probably a 2000. 2000 will have two key way slots on it.

Looks a lot like a U20 crank.

Re: Crankshaft Identification
I was just told again that it came from a 1969 Datsun Roadster 2000. I've asked for any history if possible.
I'm just really surprised that the part number doesn't give a simple, clear, and definitive answer.
I'll have my brother check for the key slots, and to send more detailed photos.
Are there any photos I can post that would confirm without question?
I'm looking to trade or sell this, so I want and need to represent as accurately, fairly, and honestly as I possibly can.
Thanks everyone, I really do appreciate it.

Thanks Curtis, it is exactly one inch longer than my 1600 crank, and weighs 47 lbs... but I don't know what my 1600 crank weighs, and I'm 531 miles away from both... so don't know if that's heavy or not... I'm relying on friends and pics

Thanks Dave. Your opinion is as strong as it gets, so I'm very hopeful.

If there's one thing that seems to hard to figure it's crank part numbers. Trying to look them up and all different and superseded numbers.

Re: Crankshaft Identification
It's a U-20 crank. You can easily tell by the 12 bolt holes in the flywheel flange.

Re: Crankshaft Identification
I did some medium-strength Googling, and didn't find anything definitive, only possible discrepancies... and a 2011 post here on 311s asking the same question.
Now that's what I'm talking about! Some positive identification clue.Mike Unger wrote: ↑Fri Jul 23, 2021 9:33 am It's a U-20 crank. You can easily tell by the 12 bolt holes in the flywheel flange.
Thank you Mike!
I also heard from my friend just this morning that it was positively taken out of her husband's old Roadster 2000, by him personally.
So, now... what to do with it?
Thanks again everyone.

Re: Crankshaft Identification
Option 1 sell it
Option 2 keep it for a spare
Option 3 send it to me and I’ll keep it for a spare
If you are going to sell it you should have it checked and measured by a machine shop first.

Re: Crankshaft Identification
Gosh, if only I knew your address, the crank would already be on it's way!
Actually, since project funds are extremely low, I think I'll look to trade or sell.
As I understand it, it's never been turned, but I will confirm that with some measurements. Good idea, thanks a lot,
Peter

Re: Crankshaft Identification
Thank you Sid.
I actually got this for a friend to build a stroker. He now has a line on a U20 but still needs that deal to get over the finish line, so I'll wait until he gets that just to be sure he won't need this.
Assuming it all goes well, after that I will reach out to Pat.
Thanks again.

Peter,
In my experience, casting numbers don’t always correlate to catalog part numbers.
