Roadster mechanic recommendation in Sacto?

Post by bespa »

If I have to swap out a transmission, which shop do you recommend in the Sacramento area? Is it necessary to go to
a roadster specialist? Or anyone person in particular?

Thanks Minh, please ask your friend. I can sure save a few bucks on this one. I checked out AAMCO. I believe their basic tranny pull and rebuild starts at $895. And by the way, I think I'll be working in Sacramento pretty soon.

I dropped the dime on him this evening... I will be over to see him this Friday.

He says he can look at it. Unsure right now if I have all the references for him to do the job, but definitely has all the tools.

I'll let you know in a few days.

Bespa...

He gonna look over my materials and get back with me.

If there isn't enough info to go on, then well you know... However I think I got enough info for him. He is not afraid to tear into any manual tranny. However he is not one to do it without knowing the ins and outs.

Okay...

I talked to him... He is unsure what the problem is. It could be something minor like a flywheel bolt banging around the bellhousing or something worse.

Either way it will require pulling the motor and tranny out and then putting it back in to take a look.

Just the removal of and re-installing the motor and tranny, he is "asking" $200. This would be his 2nd Roadster. The 1st was mine and that was a 5-speed. Most of his experience are manual Porsche, Chevy, Ford, and Volkswagen transmissions. The good news is that Roadster - from what I've raed and heard - come in only Borg-Warner, Servo-Synchro, and Porsche type trannies. He says he is confident about it.

After he checks it out, he can give you a final estimate of what the cost is.

BTW: I gonna be helping too.

Minh: I started my car up on Sunday and took it out around the
block. The sound that I heard earlier had soften.

I think it's still a good idea for you guys to take a look still. I just hope it's something small. I want to know what you think.

This weekend ain't good, but the next is fine or anytime after that.

I think so... I ask him tomorrow.

I told him that the Roadster is not your primary vehicle. He was glad to hear that.

Bespa,

It's a green light for next weekend. Give me a call to set it up.
