Saving up for a Roadster in Pittsburgh

Post by SteelCity311 »

Hello everyone!

Pittsburgh has a HUGE vintage race and car show every year and I'm looking to get involved. After researching all of the classes, a SRL311 has the best combination of looks, speed, and relative affordability for the 2L class.
I'm selling off old projects/toys and starting to look for a SRL311 to turn into a BRE tribute. If you have a bead on a decent SRL around $6k (around what I'm going to have after selling other projects) or are from the PA area, let me know!

I'll be sure to document the process as I go through my search, purchase, and build. Looking forward to contributing in any way I can.

Cheers!

Hmmm....sounds like Simon has a twin in Pittsburgh! Hope your endeavor goes smoother than his.
You might search for posts from 2mAn or Simon’s Lady to read about his tribulations. There are lessons to be learned there.

Well, not to be silly, but WHICH Pittsburgh? What state? PA first comes to mind but one never knows.

What is your budget for turning the street SRL into a race car? Have you considered buying an SRL race car instead of cutting up a street car?

Good call notoptoy! I'm in Pittsburgh, PA.

I'll be sure to look up Simon's posts before getting started.

If I can find a prepped car to start with, that would be ideal. My modest starting budget is pointing me toward a street car in need of work. The actual race modifications will take place over many years of ownership and not be too extreme to prevent street use. It'll start with minimum requirements to be certified for SVRA competition and go from there. SVRA doesn't permit a lot of modifications that hack up the car, so it should appear relatively stock except for decals, roll bar, and some interior changes. Fast street car with BRE livery, that's the plan.

Unfortunately in the current market, $6k isn't going to buy a lot of Roadster. Keep your eyes open and talk to locals. They turn up.
