66' Red Roadster

Hello all,

I'm about a year into my current Datsun rut. I brought the roadster home on a trailer and got it running shortly after.


And after a bit of elbow grease.



The first thing I did was install vented rotors and modern calipers.


And at some point I picked up a parts car.


Now for the current state of things. I cleaned and por15'ed the floor pans, carpet kit coming soon.
Also decided that the parts car windshield was in better condition.
At this point of disassembly I think I should clean and paint the dash before reinstalling the windshield.


Spent too much time on this dash pad.

Hey thanks for fixing the pictures.

I dropped off a 1600 block and u20 crank to a local machine shop this week.
I'll need to buy pistons, bearings, and gaskets to get it all back together.

Has anyone run the fancy connecting rods from new-datsun-parts.com?
Are there any other parts sellers represented on here?
Would like to support the right person when buying the parts required to get the stroker back together.

I dont think you need fancy rods. Theres a member here selling factory size U20 pistons.

BTW Oakdale? Nice. Cousin works there, tons of family in Turlock and Modesto

Hello again,

I've spent the last few months working with my local machine shop to get a stroker together.

The machine shop chose to not install a freeze plug in a hole on the back driver side of the block.
They thought that a 'vent' of some sort should be there. The 3-bearing block I have in the car now has a freeze plug in that location.
Any thoughts?

Local cam grinder went a little wild, so I decided not to take any material off the flywheel.

Im guessing that hole is for a Road draft tube for crankase ventilation. Might be ok capped if you have a later model valve cover with the breather bib.
You could add a fitting to the plug and route them both to a breather box. #stroker

No experience regarding the freeze plug. The cam is hot but streetable, about like what a U20 "B" cam would be I think, should come on at about 3200 rpms with the 240 at 50thou duration I would imagine. Looking in the manual I dont see rocker ratios for the R engine so I'm not sure on total lift (I assume he found it somewhere), and I see the valve timing is different vs a U20, so all my comments are a guess. Have fun!
