Roadster steering column link?

Post by jrusso07 »

Have this part in my stash from one of my car’s spares. Looks to to be the steering column link to the steering box but seems short.

Shaft diameter is ~5/8”

U joint is splined

U joint is marked S-3 and has 4 small raised dots under the marking

Doesn't the steering rod fit into another in the engine bay? Looks like that one was removed.
You can replace that ujoint which seems to be the one above the steering box

Could that be from a sedan like a 510?

I have looked at the exploded parts diagrams on carpartsmanuals.com for all of the Datsun models, including the 510 and the z cars. Nothing really seems to match this. The z is close but it bolts to the urathane coupling, not to a splined shaft.

I had a Triumph GT6 at one time but this doessnt match up with that either - based on online schematic

Might just be a misplaced part tossed in with others that I acquired when I bought cars.

Is consensus that this is not a roadster part? That's where I'm at.

I was told be a reputable source that this is a 69 roadster lower steering link for the recirculating ball steering box.
