Turbo mainfold fitment for SR swap

Post by wantsum? »

afternoon all!

I very rarely post as all the info I need is found through using the search!

ill be laying color on my 1970 1600 very shortly. I have a S13 SR20DET that's freshly rebuilt ( ACL / Eagle / Wiseco ).
Black Friday is fast approaching and I'm looking to get a " deal" on my turbo. I'll be running a GT2871R. 56T / 64ar. T2 flange w/ internal gate for quickest spool. In spirit of black Friday, if I can get a deal on a off the shelf mani I'd rather do that then pay $$$ for a one off piece.

This is where I have some questions.

Is anyone running this set up?

what manifold are you running?

Does anyone know if this will fit on the OEM bottom mount mani in a roadster?

I am currently looking into a custom fabbed top mount or side mount set up as well due to space issues.

thanks in advance!

There are no OEM exhaust manifolds which will work with a LHD Datsun Roadster with the SR20DET engine-- you will need to custom make a manifold to suit your application.. Either a log manifold, or something equal length, but packaging to get around the steering shaft will be your challenge.

We also have not found an off the shelf or an OEM that fits. It is going to be custom. Steering and frame just do not move.

We have been pointing our customers to this kit for a simple, log manifold which will work for many people's applications:

If you want to start getting a cool, equal length manifold, then it will need to be custom built to the application. We have looked at making one as a part that we could offer, but with the many different turbo designs, and the interference with the different master cylinder layouts have prevented us on making a single part that would work for that application.

I fabricated my log manifold starting with Treadstone's investment cast SS flange. Then use 1 1/2 SS elbows like Mazworx. It did work out very nicely. I still had to take a skim cut on my mill to make sure the flange was flat after welding. I agree, there is no room for a bottom mount, let alone trying to get intercooler plumbing to the front. Top mount with Michael's solution to run intercooler piping outside the inner fender is absolutely the ticket.
