Very interesting.
I can't make out the characters on the window so it's hard to tell where that car was exported to Germany from.

The biggest mystery is why the Nameplate is in Chinese characters and not Japanese??? Maybe the car comes from Taiwan? If only that car could talk :)

I believe Chinese and Japanese letter characters are similar , if not identical.

Ok, this car, as far as I remember, is a Japanese original market. It was imported to Germany a couple of years ago, and has periodically been put up for sale.
Lets have a quick overview of Japanese;

The characters are Japanese (kanji) on the chassis plate, but as said above, they are the same as Chinese characters. Chinese, is just made of these complex characters. This a Japanese very short sentence would look like,日産自動車 サービス周報 ニッサン シルビア 1600クーペ の紹介.

But, Japanese also, historically, introduced its own characters as well. 日産自動車, is Nissan Motor Co.which you see on the chassis plate (complex, made up with quite a number of stokes), katakana, ニッサン シルビア , more "simple" stokes, which phenitically spell out something, this case, Nissan Silvia. ニッ(ni)サ(sa)ン(n). Then there is hiragana, which is "curvy" "simple" strokes, again, with the same phenetically (spelling) sound に(ni), の(no) but I think, are the building blocks of a sentence, the "its, who, and, are" etc. I may not be quite correct on this, but this is how I have been seeing Japanese from transcribing and translating.

If you have a Japanese market, Fairlady SP/SR, your chassis plate will be like this, in Japanese. And the some export cars in the 1960's had Japanese kanji, e.g. the Silvia's that were exported.

Helpful?

On a side note, I will get to my email (work) tomorrow to respond to the email sent to me...

Interesting. A coworker that was looking at the listing with me immediately took them as hanzi and the Mandarin translation was exactly as expected.
