'64 1500 Mostly Original
I have been tossing about the idea of selling my 64 in order to but something I can take the wife and 2 kids in all at the same time. I bought the car a couple years ago, and have done only a couple things to it.
Replaced the exhaust Manifold and exhaust system
Rebuilt Alternator (car is still Positive Ground)
Just installed Champion Radiator (still have OEM)
I have a bunch of extra parts and print stuff. The original Manual, as well as other items.
For the history as far as I can tell the car has been repainted once and shows some low quality work on the passenger rear quarter, and there is a large spot on the hood from something unknown (currently covered by an Okamoto OK sticker). Odometer and clock do not work. Other than that car is fairly original looking and just received an brake and carb tune up from JDM legends here in Salt Lake.
If any one has an idea of what they think I could reasonably sell the car for please let me know. I have a number in my head, but looking for other opinions.

One sold (a 1500 and I think it was a 64) at auction (a red one) ~ 1.5 years ago for around 35 K IIRC.
Allow some for paint and gauge work and my guess (and it's a guess) is the neighborhood of 20 K for yours. Others can provide more informed estimates than I. As a reference 1600''s on eBay never seem to Exceed 18 K no mater how nice.
Depends on the buyers market.

Your 3 pictures show what appears to be a better than average 1500
BUT
we need lots more pictures and details on the mechanical condition and the extent of rust
to evaluate it and give an opinion on value.
There are a number of forum members with knowledge of the 3 seat 1500s
who I am sure will want to "put an oar in".

There is zero rust. Mechanics are sound as I stated just had the brakes and carbs gone through by well known JDM Legends.

The low level paint work surely brings the " value " down a notch. Then again, if the paint is really old, the body deterioration would show more. Kind of a catch 22.
Not many of these out there.
Imho Collectability is a 2. Condition is a 3.5.
The breather hose is driving me crazy
Should bring 20k easy. Ask 28k

Really nice looking car. I personally think for uniqueness, the 3 seat 1500 has a higher value than a well sorted 1600 - whether or not the market agrees is another matter. This looks really well sorted, though I have no idea of value, sorry!

It had nothing on there when I bought it.
Also not a hole, looks like overspray from the undercoating

It may be an illusion but is part of the bottom side of passenger rocker panel cut away? Second pic is what I'm looking at.
Edit: just saw someone else noticed it too. Guess i didn't refresh ma browser.

I agree. The uniqueness/correctness is where the value lies. You should see us at a DROPS meet. GEEKS, nitpicking the small stuff. Sometimes those last few smalls are the hardest hurdles to overcome. $57 could bring another 1000.........notoptoy wrote:Really nice looking car. Its like a perfect paint job, one small nick, a bug, a fisheye, stands out like a croc on a golf course.

Here is the issue with that thinking. If I was a buyer, I'd wonder what else you cheaped out on, and value your car lower based on that alone. That $50 is the difference between a well looked after car and a "good enough" car, you really should change it out.car_cursed wrote:$3 at Autozone > $57 oem style part.pebbles wrote: The breather hose is driving me crazy

The market for the 1500 is an odd one, not too much demand (but it is much better than 10 years ago!).
Based on photos and description, that should be a $20K car. If a few little things were fixed AND it did not have the paint issues, $25k. Looking at the current market, if you put it o BAT, i think it would end @$18k
I remember when no one wanted the 1500s......

I agree it's a $20k+ car. Not with Bring A Trailer, but private party for sure.

Re: '64 1500 Mostly Original
I'm leaning toward keeping it. I ordered a proper molded hose, am looking to get period correct hose clamps.
The kicker being my 7 year old daughter asking if she gets to drive the car when she turns 16. I told her if I still have it. But that makes me think I am in this for the long term. It should not loose value and unless I move out of the country I think I will keep it. I just need more space. I have the wife convinced to let me build a shop to put my cars in so I just need to get that going.

Re: '64 1500 Mostly Original
I think it would be a great car. The third seat can be a real advantage. A few weeks back my wife and I wanted to go for a drive in the mountains, but our daughter was back from college and wanted to go to, so no Roadster. We ended up taking her BMW 325 convertible, but it is not the same. Years ago at Shasta #3 there was a guy there with a 3 seat 1500 with a complete U20 transplant and updated brakes etc. I really liked that car, admired the unusual dash, and the 3rd seat. No roll bar, but other than that it was just how I like them.
Hope you have not taken offense to the comments regarding things like proper hoses... these guys know these cars and what makes a difference when selling. For us who are just running them, well, my "rare" '67 2000 is no where near stock, but I don't care as my focus is elsewhere from being stock and mine was a bastard case to begin with.
