Tire chooses?

Post by silvertiger »

Wanted to get a little feed back on tires used by others.

I'm going to run 225/45/15

Didn't want a full race tire. Prefer a tread wear at or above 200. Also still want something a little sticky for a few track days and autocross. Plus get more than 5k miles out of them. I know it's a lot to ask. Love getting the car moving around above 80-110.

Thanks

These are two things that are tough to reconcile. :smt003

Slightly more aggro, but still just this side of full race...

Thanks for the links

I love the Nitto but at 100 tread wear my tire shop would start sending me thanks you letters.

Toyo is a better choice for wear.

Any one running Toyo R1R tire? Would love to know how it feels at the limit(brake away gradually or snap)

I'm searching as well, hear good things of Hankook R-S3 with 200 UTQG and Yoko S-Drive at 300 UTQG a bit less sticky. Sumi HTRZ-3 about 300 and reasonable. But I don't think they come in 15s.

The Nitto will actually have less grip in most usage that that Toyo. It really is a track tire, that comes to life when it warms up. And it is difficult on the street to get the Nitto to heat up.

That said, once warm, that Nitto is NICE..

Either one of those tires, in that size, on a car the size and weight of a roadster, with the suspension even close to set up, are going to snap rather than release softly. The more grip you get, the sharper the line gets when you cross it..

I hope you have done some serious clearancing to give you room for tires this size. They would not even get close on my car. They would probably fit at a static model position. But the minute the car started moving and the suspension started to cycle, well...

And this is a 205.

That's why I need tires so I can have a rolling chassis by the end of summer

get the R-S3! It's nice compromise between grip and price. No complaints here:)
