I don't know if you can still get a Tilton U20 flywheel because I purchased mine years ago. I think around $375. The kevlar clutch disk was $175. I noticed that the picture of the clutches was 2011. That is when I must of purchased the second clutch for $200.

If the aftermarket pressure plate has the three straps centering it, I found them easy to break.

As a matter of fact, there is a thread somewhere I chronicled my pp failure and Centerforce's refusal to honor the warranty.

This is why I prefer the stock pressure plate.

Looks great to me JT! I am sorely tempted, but, I have a near new U20 set up for the car....Engine bay is empty awaiting the new R20 engine.... :? :smt017 :roll:

I think the flywheel and 240 clutch is a great combination.
I personally would prefer a 7 1/4 dual plate and Aluminum Flywheel, but that requires a good starter. LOL
I don't know if it can be done, but I would like to see a dual pattern flywheel so you could use either clutch.

Thought about a dual pattern, but would have required an over sized, larger steel insert to allow the small disc, increasing the weight, complexity and of course driving the cost up. (Twice as many holes and dowel locations too.)

My intention was just a FW that is way lighter than the stock one, while still allowing the 225mm unit.

There are all kinds of expensive clutch options- this is just a great all around package. Of course a stock 240 clutch is not a racing clutch. If that is the intention you would want a racing 225mm version/kevlar etc. j

Like I said people have their own preferences and that is OK! The Kevlar disc was 187 10 years ago - just a disc it appears, so you need the expensive plate+bearing - 250-300? so like I said, that is a 500$ clutch...You can buy a Kevlar 240z clutch for WAY under that if so inclined.

375 Sounds about right for the Tilton- If they made one now, at least 700, but they don't.

Personally I think Dakin pressure plates are totally fine. There are 10's of thousands in service. I've never had an issue with one.

Keep in mind that the 225mm unit isn't stressed nearly as much for the same torque and load. All the forces are distributed over the larger surface/bigger pressure plate. It was designed for more power and torque from the very beginning.

Otherwise, why not just use the 510/roadster design on the 240z? Seems fairly obvious to me.

Of course, use what ever you like! this is just another option for you.

Another question:
I had read that a lightened FW can help increase HP? I suppose that is a racing clutch package, so what is the difference there?

The light flywheel won't make the engine make more power, but it will allow the car to accelerate faster.

The FW is a rotating mass that requires energy to accelerate it as you go through the gears. That uses some of the engine power that could be accelerating the rest of the car. The heavier the FW, the more energy required.

If the Fw is too light your idle will be rougher because a higher mass FW wants to stay moving at a constant speed more than a light one does ( the flywheel effect). That smooths out things at low speed.

A true racing clutch is a very different animal than a street clutch. Built to be light but strong, take lots of power, and often either fully engaged or fully released. Not a good street item. J

It is a stock pressure plate and bearing with a Tilton Al flywheel. The clutch disk would work the same with all stock parts.
