Roadsters sold/for sale on ebay

Post by msampsel »

A little different twist to restoration tips:

I see the white 67 (first place low W 1600 this year at solvang)
_1.JPG
listed on ebay for 27,500 is no longer listed . Looks like it ended without selling. I've seen others 1600's about as nice as this one go for for 11,000 on ebay.

I did see one sell for 40,000 once on ebay (2014), a black 2000 67.5.

Here was the pedigree:

For Sale is my 67.5 Datsun 2000 Roadster. The car is 1808 miles from a complete, nuts/bolts, frame off, restoration. I took it to Solvang, CA a few weeks ago for the 2014 Solvang Datsun Show and won 3rd Place in the low windshield 2000 division. The car is a blast to drive and runs excellent. I have spent the last 2 years building this one to my taste. I chromed what Datsun did not, and built it. I have tons of pix of the car as I was building it, from the freshly media blasted body, all body work hammered/dollied with no filler, ceramic heat/sound deadener, and gloss powder coated frame. All work was performed by myself. Below is a list of highlights of the car. This is the real deal 67 2000, SRL311-000218, with the correct rare items.

Frame:
1. Gloss powdercoated and inside of frame rails treated with Eastwood internal frame coating
2. Competition suspension with vintage Koni shocks front and rear
3. Competition sway bar on front
4. All new ball joints, upper and lower spindle bushings, seals, and rear bushings.

Engine/Transmission:
1. U20 motor bored .040, new pistons, rings, mains, rods, seals, and water pump
2. Aluminum flywheel
3. B-cam and Solex carbs, 44mm.
4. Comp Oil pan
5. Electronic Distributor
6. Rebuilt 5 speed transmission with new bearings and seals.
7. Completely rebuilt rear end with 3.9 Limited Slip Differential. Axle housing gloss powder coated.
8. All bolts were bead blasted and Zinced. New bolts installed in the suspension components.
9. American Racing Equipment 14" LeMans wheels (Magnesium). If you prefer Libre's, Empi's, or OEM I can switch out.

Body:
1. Any rusted areas repaired with new metal (very little needed).
2. Glass bead blasted inside and out (body placed on rotisserie)
3. All body work hand hammered and dollied. Blocked many many times. Only filler is where the original Lead seams were removed.
4. Lizard skin ceramic and sound deadener applied on underside of body tub, inside of of tub, inside of doors, under hood/trunk lid, and inside quarter panels.
5. Eastwood internal rust protection applied inside of inner fender rails, A-pillars, and rockers.
6. Car was painted in pieces and then assembled and resprayed. House of Kolor Jet black, with 4 layers of clear, and cut and buffed out.
7. New Stayfast soft top and boot cover. (top has zippered rear window)

Interior:
1. Rebuilt gauges by Jon Frampton and chromed.
2. New interior. Seats, carpet, panels
3. Chromed trim pieces, handles, cranks, dash trim, and parcel shelf trim.
4. All new weatherstripping, (any thing rubber is new).
5. Almost all items new chrome.
6. Hidden Rosta electronic cruise control (I hide the controls under dash to be stealthy, pull it out when not showing)

Everything works as it did when new. All gauges work and are accurate (speedo matches GPS within 2 mph). One key for ignition and all locks.

I saw your car and its a first rate restoration.

This site requires you list a price.

IMHO, it will sell fast in the low 30s and slower as the price increases........I have been wrong before........

Good Luck on your Sale.....Have you found your next roadster?

Hey fj20spl311,

Sorry to be confusing with my post. I do not currently have a roadster for sale. My purpose
was to document one which sold on ebay and some of the particulars with it. Thought some of the folks
restoring roadsters might be interested in the market for a 67.5 on ebay last year.

The black 2 liter was sold on May 17th 2014 for $40,000 and was the highest price I've seen on ebay for a roadster.
I also documented the white one asking $27,500 (first place solvang this year for low w 1600) which
apparently did not sell in one week.

Just wanted to archive this and what was done to the car in the restoration thread (the 67.5).
Posts in the for sale thread goes away after 30 days ...

That's actually a pretty good idea. We see odd ball ebay ads and way-to-high ads but it would be a good gauge for all of us to see actual, gavel down, selling prices.

You can go online to see what people are asking for their roadsters but you have to remember, they are all unsold at that price.

The car sold for 40,000 on ebay last year the owner has put another 10,000 in it. BAT also said they have never seen a Roadster sale for more than 40,000 on a online action site.
Private sales and one action have sold from 50,000 to 55,000 over the last 2 years for restored cars. Hagerty price valuation tool has 67 2000 going from 40,000 to 51,100 last Dec over the last 2 years.
My car #485 is for sale at 54,000 or offer. I have had no offers of any kind. Pm me with if you are a buyer or can help with the sale of this car.
I am a private person and will not do this in a public setting. Any thing else I am glad to add what I believe to be true on this forum.

Where is the value numbers matching, options, one owner, every part new?

67 2000 price for a used car is very unclear to me. When does a restored car become a used car 10,000 miles, one year?

There was a 68, 1600 which auctioned for 50,600 at a FL car show, action (Amelia Island).
From the cars in attendance this year (via Hemmings) suspect there are owners there with very deep pockets.
1942 Alpha C6 2500 SS is on my wish bucket list!
The 1961 Ferrari 250 GT driven by Stirling Moss (who appeared at the show) is a nice one too. (1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta holds the record at action at 38 Million).
So who knows if this kind of guest list might have helped fetch 50,600 last year there?

Seems like #485 is a good deal. Just needs to match up with a buyer with deep pockets.
I started this thread to track what might make sense to do for my car finance wise so I can get 10 K+ for it when and if I have to sell it cause I'm too old to drive it.

I was confused by the Hopefully you are NEVER too old to drive...........

I was confused by "For Sale is my 67.5 Datsun 2000 Roadster."

It would be sad for me to see you put that much effort into your car and not drive it.

Thanks Phil, I hope I am never too old to drive too, but realize reality will set in someday. Best of show in 2001 must have been exciting for you.
I enjoy driving both of my topless cars a lot!

I found that Hemmings magazine needs to do a correction. The 1942 alpha in their mag I like so much is really a 1939 per the internet.

My bucket list non Datsun ... 1939 alpha (just think in another 30 years what these Datsuns might be)

I'm glad to see people are appreciating Roadsters more, as witnessed by the increasing prices. Mine however is priceless to me... it would be like selling a good friend I've had for 30 yrs!
