Electrical Issue

Post by 69roadster »

Lost power to my 67.5 SPL. There no power to the ignition switch, Light, Amp Gage, fuse box.ect. I pulled the big white wire off the back of the amp gage and checked for power. Nothing, check across all of the flues no power at the fuse box. I do have power to the wires at the solenoid. The battery does read 12 volts. I did have to jump the car today had it running in the garage came back a few minuets later shout the car off. Ten minuets later I went to take it out on a test run and had no power replaced the battery as well . Any ides of thing I can check.

I noticed that after I hooked up a jumper wire from the positive battery terminal to the altenator with the white wire attached the car poweres up and everything works, and the starter turns over . Without the jumper the power is dead. I ohm the white wire and it checked out.

There is a fusible link down by the starter that connects the white wire to the battery.

Of course the q remains, why did the fusible link blow?
You may find it more convenient to replace the link with either a self resetting circuit breaker or a conventional Maxi blade fuse
Don't remove it altogether or the Amp gauge will become a fusible link in lieu

This is the first I've heard of a fusible link on a roadster. Is it in the starter harness?

Me too, I thought it was just bad design.

Its shown on most of the wiring diagrams, but not labeled.
Its also common for it to blow and be replaced with standard wire........amp meter than takes its place....LOL

I have installed a Maxi Fuse in its place.....A circuit breaker is a good idea, if you can remember its there when it blows, otherwise your car starts working again after a rest until it blows again..........and again....and again......LOL
