Watkins Glen 2013

Post by dbrick »

We are proud to be running the 26th Roadsters at the Glen Saturday September 7th in Watkins glen NY
Last year, in spite of the rain, we had a great show, an awesome dinner and with the help of our vendors and sponsors, a huge raffle.
We are following the same tried and true format as the past, why mess with success. The dinner is planned by our Head Chef Sherry and if last year's amazing food was an indication of what she can throw together on short notice, this year should be even better.
If you plan on coming and have never been, make reservations NOW, hotels, motels and campgrounds fill up fast.
We are doing hats this year and I'm ordering a bunch of extras, so they will be available here. Shirts are probable, but would be a preorder.

I'm looking into doing a Spring Roadster event, most likely the weekend before Memorial day also at the Glen, Seneca Lodge if we can get it organized. details to follow whenever we have some.

Thanks
Sherry
Joe
Dave

Schedule
Watkins Glen Grand Prix festival is Friday September 6th everyone makes their way downtown and we all get together on Datsun Hill, the view in this painting, and cheer the parade laps.
http://www.grandprixfestival.com/images/Program2011.jpg
Saturday morning is the Show and Shine at the Watkins Glen State Park
We are hoping someone wants to organize a tour for the mid-day on Saturday
Saturday late afternoon, we meet up at the State Park Pavilion for dinner, awards and raffles. We have the Pavilion rented for the whole day, so please, feel free to use it.
There are numerous groups of us running around to wineries etc in the days before and during, I may occasionall end up at 2 Goats Brewery, where I'm trying to organize something Thursday. So get there, get in touch and have fun. No Roadster required.

Any questions or if you need to be added to the email list PM me

And an annoying administrative detail...you have to pay to enter the park. Most likely for show n shine, else at the dinner. One pay gets you in and out all day, So pay once and keep the receipt stub.

Just a reminder for the folks at the Glen roadster meet that enjoy racing. One of the biggest vintage races in the country is taking place up the hill at Watkins Glen International on Thursday-Sunday. There is always a large turnout of some amazing race cars. I will be there racing our Datsun 2000. Please stop by the paddock and say hi if you attend.

Will you be bringing any other cars Mike? The Z, your street roadster, anything else?

I think just the 2000 race roadster. I'm very busy at work and I have some tweaking to do on the roadster to get it ready so no time for anything else. We were fortunate to win the race on Sunday the last two years so I think the competition is going to be really tough this year. The Porsche 356s are always fast at the Glen but I think they will be especially hungry this year. Then there are the Loti. I need to find a little more speed. ;-)

Ok. I don't know if I will make it this year. I am about due though. I know that lightness adds speed, but there isn't much left to lighten on your car that I can recall. Does Dick come up to watch the fun?

Yes, they weigh the cars to make sure we are at minimum weight so not much to gain there. Dick sometimes comes to the race if he is in town. He's enjoying traveling these days.

I guess you couldn't use the trick that the Shelby team used to use. Some of their cars were well under minimum weight, so they had a helmet that was filled with lead instead of foam. They would leave it in the car during weigh ins...

I keep forgetting there's a race track up there :D :D
We did "parade laps" in the rain last month. Kinda squirlley. Wife NOT HAPPY with big steel walls when playing catch up to the pack. That is an unforgiving track, and we were nowhere near racing speed.

Hi all,
We are a month away. I'll have the hat and shirt designs finalized and a method to order by the middle of this week, hopefully using the same place that made the Shedd BBQ hats. If anyone is thinking of coming and is not getting Emails, please let me know, either Email or PM. If it's your first time, and you haven't found a place yet, get on it quickly, everything fills up fast.

It looks like we are having a meet and greet on Thursday night at Two Goats Brewery on the East side of Seneca, Carl is working out the details, we'll get private parking etc. We can also get alot of the show registration and shirts and hats done there. No guarantee on free beer, but I'll try. http://www.twogoatsbrewing.com/

as soon as shirt details are worked out, I'll get the email out to all. I am ordering a bunch of extra hats, but shirts will be kept pretty close to the pre orders.

See you all in a month!

Don't worry, there will be a local one or two, might even meet up in Maple Shade at Iron Hills one weekend. It's central to NJ, Philadelphia and Baltimore.

Dave and all, We just caught up with Jon Rogers of 2 Goats Brewing. Sorry couldn't talk him into free beer for us all but he will give any of us your favorite sandwich with his craft beer for $10. Also, anyone who shows up will be in a drawing ( that you have) for 2 of his tee shirts, driver and co-pilot. I will have the Datsun flag on his signpost so that you don't have to turn around again. 2 goats is on the east side of Seneca (route 414) 7.3 miles from the traffic light in Watkins Glen ( Jerlandos pizza and Chemung Bank corner). Getting close! We can do registration, tee shirts and hats there. Update us on approx. time and post 2 Goats web site again. Thanks!

Bump on the thread...just a few weeks away...bring your Datsuns to the Glenn...drink good bear...or wine...or both...and have a fantastic dinner by chief Sherry. Bring your spare parts to offer up in the raffle....or wine...or beer...it's all good.
