Should i buy Shelby Wheels

Post by Chucks66 »

I found a guy that has a set of Shelby 14"x 5.5 wheels. Should I buy them and what
Are they worth? Not sure of the offset yet I'm going over now.
He took them off his 280Z

I like them. Of course I like the wheels you have on your car too.

Z wheels are usually zero offset - meaning they will stick "out" about 12-15mm more than you want them to.

It shouldn't be a problem for such a narrow wheel on a roadster though. I say go for it.

I bought them. $100.00 for all four. Shelby Viper 14x5.5
Now my question is. why dose the inside of the wheel have a metal ring inside the hub? and dose that mean one is for the front and rear.

The metal ring is probably just to center on the hub. If the lug spacing is correct, and the wheel nuts you are using have tapered faces, and you are careful tightening everything up, the ring shouldn't matter I don't think. My after market winter wheels have composite rings which press in to center on the hub. When doing seasonal changeover, sometimes the rings stay on the car sometimes stay with the rim. Have to be careful not to accidentally leave it behind when going back to summers... Shelby's look cool!

Looks great on the car. Someone this weekend had a set of Rockwell Libras, he machined a set of caps, which looked great.

The guy I bought the wheels from called me and said he found 3
center caps with a "D" on them. I'm going out this weekend to see
them, but I'm not sure if they are the correct ones for the wheels.
Any body have a photo of what they should look like???

This is from Wikipedia,
The Libre, sometimes known as the "daisy" wheel, was a 4-lug, 4-spoke wheel popular with sports car racers, often seen on MGB's and Datsun 510's. Each spoke appeared to bulge slightly in the middle, giving the wheel a robust appearance. These were cast in magnesium for racing and in aluminum alloy for street use. American Racing eventually sold the Libre molds to Shelby American, who marketed the Libre under their own name. Some 13" Libres have raised lettering on one spoke reading "SCCA", indicating wheels that were specially made for SCCA's Spec Racer program.
Assuming it to be true, Libre caps should fit. Knockoff spinners can look good too.
