if you offered everything required to make this work in a complete kit, including fittings, s s brake lines, rotors, and the spacers, that might be a way to sell more for guys that don't have the time, or too lazy to chase all the parts down.

along with specific dimmensions on the machine work for the hubs.

and a 50 % deposit made with the order, and ballance due day it ships, so you wouldn't be at risk.


all for the low, low, price of????????????

Thanks for the input sleepzzz.

Sorry...it won't be a "complete" kit like that. Guys will want cheaper lines, manifold blocks or drilled calipers. I'm not going to offer 5 or 6 different kit options to try and cater to every individual. I'm looking to create the parts that will eliminate the need to have the hubs machined. The guys interested in this mod/upgrade would be having to deal with modifying the rotors anyway. Just like they have to decide on drilling the calipers or running the manifolds. I'm not going to buy the manifolds just to put them in my kit. I've already got at least $2K of my own money hanging out there in truck parts because beer and cigarettes are still more important than disc brakes. I was kinda hoping the roadster crowd could afford both.

I like your suggestion about the 50% deposit.

I already posted that I thought it would be $150 or less. Best guess would be $135ish. The biggest price determinant will be the spindle spacers. If they get quoted lower than my guess, I can drop the price some. Have you guys got a cnc guy on here already. We've got datrod on Ratsun. I'd be happy to chat with them about making the parts.

If there's only going to be a few people interested, I may just turn the spacers manually and use shim washers for the calipers. But, I probably won't get an accurate idea of interest on just one forum. At this point, I make no promises that I'll even follow through on this. I'm helping shifty out to fix his hub clearance situation. Past that, it's still up in the air. :)

An update: Mike's spacers work perfectly. No need to machine the hubs!

An elegant solution!

I've been running the vented rotor/Volvo caliper for a few months now. It would be very hard to get these brakes to fade.

Glad to here your set-up is working.

I was and still am unwilling to move the rotors (heat) that close to the upper ball joint.
That's the main reason I cut the hub put the inter face of the rotor in the stock location.

Keep a eye on your upper ball joint boot!

I was just about to pull the trigger on the Volvo calipers for the solid rotors, but this is some really compelling stuff. I would definitely be interested in buying a kit from Mike, if he ever gets it off the ground. Even if there's never a kit, I'd be interested in a one off.

I'm usually a purist, but brakes are just one of those things. Maybe I'll stencil the Nissan logo onto the calipers. :lol:

I've been meaning to update this thread with a proper write-up!

Mike made a set of spacers that allowed me to go back to stock, uncut hubs. I also gained a bit more wheel clearance. Stock wheels are a tight fit and may require some reshaping of the brake caliper for clearance.

You may be able to get a pair of spacers from him - his website is http://www.bluehandsinc.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - the spacers are the same as his 411 conversion. He also knows where to get the shorter castle nut needed.

The rest of the stuff is fairly easy to find - other than the manifold for the calipers, if you do not want to drill.

I'm really happy with the conversion, the main "upgrade" is the vented rotor. Very unlikely to experience brake fade with this set up.

I'm not sure I would do the non-vented Volvo conversion - I don't think you really gain anything over the stock brakes.

Do the Breck Meyer manifolds work with this caliper? Or does it have a different spacing than the solid rotor caliper?

Pretty sure it's of this design:

Neat! That's excellent info. I've taken pictures of everything else in my resto so far, maybe as I eventually take pictures for this, we can get a writeup on the wiki. I wasn't even aware that there was a vented option until today. Darn, and now I'm seriously considering the 200SX rear discs... "While I'm here", right?

Perhaps investigate R56 Mini front rotors as well ?

Same 280mm x 22mm, but the rotor "hat" height is 44mm rather than 49mm for the altima ones. May save on machining of the hub, or need less machining since it has 5mm less offset ?

No idea on prices / availability / PCD (although they are 4 stud, so should be "nicer" to redrill), I was looking at both these and the Altima ones a while back for use in another application.

Looks like the rotor diameters are all over the place for those. I didn't look for long, since I'm on my way to bed, but I saw 259mm all the way up to 293mm.

It's a good thought, though. I'm having trouble visualizing all of it, but I can't think why this wouldn't work.

I've been locked out for a bit. Thanks to S Allen for getting that straightened out for me! :)

I'll try to get more info up about how I did shifty's brakes in the next week or so. It came out just the way we were hoping.....and it's actually reversible.....should you ever miss the brake fade of the stock setup :)

If you take the DBA # from the dimensions and search it in "Key in DBA # (e.g. 'DBA040')" you will get a screen with info. If you click on the "car" icon under click for info column you will get a screen with details of the fitment. (years and models).

PS: The reason I used Altima vented rotors are they are Cheap ($20-25) and had the correct bolt circle.
Moving the hub out is a very good alternative to cutting the hub.

Mini rotors looked interesting also.

Another Idea I considered is going with 20 mm rotor and cutting (narrowing) the calipers.

I an pretty sure I an going to narrow my 300ZX calipers.

FYI,
I looked up changing Mini Rotors and the bolt pattern of a mini (4x100).
The lug bolt go though the hole in the rotor, so they are also 4x100.
