exhaust pretzel?

Post by JMartin »

I am set to take the Roadster in for an exhaust system next week. I am going to get the flex pipe from them, but I realized that I don't have the exhaust pretzel that you all speak of. I assume it goes directly in front of the x member to reduce the chance of the exhaust rattling within the x member.

How critical is it to have one? If I get the exhaust system done now, can I put one on later? Are they made from Unobtanium?
Thanks

IMO, the are highly over priced, unless you are going to show the car.

Any muffler shop can and will weld up a bracket to replace the pretzel.

Jim,there are two pretzel straps. A front one and a back one.
This is the front one.

As long as the functionally duplicate the pretzel with weld on tabs you're fine. My rubber insulators broke, I ended up using 4 sway bar link bushings and a bolt with a nylock with the original metal strap. Haven't melted yet.

referencing Datsun 440's pic, note the little heat shield on the lower rubber mount. Also, there is a pretzel clamp before (as shown in pic) and after the center muffler.

I might have a spare pretzel clamp in the loft. PM me if interested and I will see if I can did it out. I don't think I have any of the rubber mounts. I did buy some from Nissan about 4 years ago...not sure if they are still available from Nissan.

Rubber mount p/n is 20220-25500
