1964 SP310 L16 EFI Turbo

Post by datsun_sp310 »

I have owned this car for nearly 6 years now. When i first got it, it had 4 wheel drums, stock L16 and 5 speed, 13" stockies.
Breaking a couple teeth in the spider gears a day at the drags led me to do the following mods over the next five+ years.
Disc brake H190 S3 Bluebird diff with a yet to be installed genuine Nismo Detroit locker, R32 GTS-T 4 pot callipers and rotors up front, brake booster, 7/8 master cylinder, all braided brake lines, Koni damper adjustable shocks front and rear, lowered springs made for front, 16x6.5 ANZ wheels with 205/45/16, CA18DET 5 speed box modified to suit L series, Extreme clutch, L16 block, rebuilt L18 internals, chrome rings, V91 head with mild porting, match port both inlet + exhaust manifolds, oversized stainless steel inlet(44mm) + exhaust valves(38mm), cast turbo manifold from L20 turbo diesel, S15 T28R turbo, custom injection manifold, RX7 440cc non-turbo injectors, Bosch motorsport pump and Bosch pre-pump, surge tank and filter in boot, 70mm throttle body, EMS Stinger ver.4 computer, 60-2 trigger wheel ignition system (distributorless), gilmer drive pulley kit, 3" front mount intercooler, 3" exhaust with twin rear stainless mufflers, and once up and running and tuned properly am considering NOS.
LED tail lights that will look similar to original but will be flush mounted to body, custom aluminium radiator, custom made dash, and many many more other smaller mods.
The car is currently in the process of a body off resto. Body is currently at the panel shop getting the very little rust it has removed and its old repairs redone as these were not up to scratch. All un-neccesary holes in engine bay will be filled (plated) and all new wiring will be run inside the guards. Car will be getting painted in 2pac black with the Datsun BRE graphics on the guards done in black metal flake. Hope to have it back by end of February. All the work was done by myself and the only reason work was done by others was if i didn't have the machinery or knowledge to do the job correctly myself.

Was debating on going original tail lights but car is no where original so decided to try something else.
I see you are in Edmonton, i lived there for 6 months while on a working holiday. I worked in West Edmonton Mall at a bar there and at the hotel. Had an awesome time, was considering staying there but due to other commitments i had to come home. I do miss the place though and am still trying to persuade my partner to make the move, :|

I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. My gf and I want to move somewhere else. Edmonton is a great city and grown tremendously since you were here but I want to live somewhere I can drive my roadster 12 months a year. 5-6 months of snow on the ground is too much for me. ...and I was born here so what is your excuse?

I was there from March to August 07 so missed the the worst of winter. Adelaide is good for its weather but when it hits 45 is a little hot :smt004 . Although Edmonton's half the size of Adelaide i found it has more to offer and i just had a great time there in all. Getting snowed in so many months of the year probably would get to me after a while.
You don't like the LED lights?

M.K. Paint and Panel doing a great job on the body, new sill panels made for both sides and rear panel to fill in the gap the bumper normally hides as i'm not running bumpers. All holes in the engine bay have been welded in. The new tail light panels welded in. Moulding seam has also been welded in and rear quarters straightened. Will be picking up panels from paint strippers in the next couple days.

Hi, I was wondering, does the new gauge panel you made fit in the standard dashboard holes? I want to make something similar, but will not cut the dash.

thanks
Dave

Yes it did fit well, but did have to file lust a little to fit the new speedo. This wouldn't make a difference if i were to place the original gauges back in.

It's been a while but progress is slowly being made, the doors are on and the new sill panels are in.
Having finally found some guards after 6 months of searching, I hope to have it back in the next couple of months and with any luck back on the road in time for summer. What year that will be who knows, I'm for this year but I said that 3 years ago

Thanks, I found these, seem pretty good, bottom of the page.

One of the reasons I bought a "finished" body, hate to wait. New bootlid arrived today via mail, so that's tha last part. One that came with it was for a 66 and needed paint anyway, so this works. I'll paint both, one for a rack, one without.

I can't believe how long it has been since my last post. Still no Fairlady in my garage but is getting closer. Here a few pictures of progress made in the past few months.
The chassis has since been sand blasted, etched and ready to be painted with a product called POR15 which is suppose to be super hard wearing, along with all suspension and steering components.
The Guards I found were not as good as they looked after getting them back from the dip. Especially the left side as you can see in the pictures 2 guards were used to make the one. Although I must admit the job he did on the guard is pretty impressive. Gotta love finding these old repairs people do, the rusted area was only pushed in and a plate welded over the top. Oh well i'm just glad I wasn't paying for those repairs, well I guess I kind of am because if it was done right in the first place I wouldn't be doing it now.
A final mock of everything to make sure it all lines up and gaps are sorted and it then gets a poly coat or something like that. Hopefully have more pics soon as the bottom 3 were only taken today.
