69 2000 Derustoration
Bought a 1969 Datsun roadster in 2006 for fun and enjoyment. It ran and drove. The frame is in good shape and we (my wife and I) thought it would be fun. One of the reasons we bought this particular kind of car is that I was parked next to a 1964 Datsun Fairlady in a car show many years ago and we fell in love with the idea of driving around in one. We already had a wreck of a Karmann Ghia which I had written off as unrestorable and the Datsun seemed a more plausible candidate.
A pic shortly after we bought it.
So I began dis-assembly and soon became busy with other things. It sat like this for 9 years.
A couple years ago I became angry with the Karmann Ghia and decided I was going to practice on it. I dragged it out of the weeds and so far this is the result so far. It still needs a new top which is on order.
Here is the Ghia build thread for anyone interested.

Anyway I now feel I can restore this Datsun properly. I have moved it under a chain hoist and it will soon undergo surgery.
A couple current pictures.
More later.

Welcome, looks like a very solid platform for a restoration, and based on your practice with the Ghia, it'll turn out great!
"When all else fails, force prevails!" Ummm, we're gonna need a bigger hammer here.

Re: 69 2000 Derustoration
Problem areas.
The good thing about this car it that very little was buried and hidden from view. It has only had an exterior repaint once and it ran very well before I parked it. It has a good frame, engine, transmission. Plenty of rust trough in some sheet metal areas, but nothing too scary to me. I'm going to do a bit of work making panels and patches before the body comes off the pan.
The floor pans were pretty good. Here is the worst of it.
It's about like this on both sides.
The other wheel well is OK. This one not so much.
Might be hard to keep things in the trunk with this.
Strangely this is the part I like. Fixing the metal that it.

Cutting stuff out and putting new stuff back in. Seam sealer and brushed epoxy where it will be hard to spray later.

Patch panel made and welded in. Appropriate holes will be drilled in later when I get the correct sized bit.

I admire those skills. I have a mastery over wood but metal? No way. I can bang it a little, but cut and weld? Out of my skill set and tools. Router yes, welder no.
Well done!

Re: 69 2000 Derustoration
Thanks. Working on the lower front right rocker now. Here are old and newly made patch panels. Used 20 gauge galvanized on these. No really good way to get to these areas after your done so I thought galvanized would be best.

Sweeeeeet. Galvanized is the way to go.
I had a 78 911 Targa. Older ones are more high dollar but the SC were all galvanized. No rust issues.
